This letter written in 2005 is from Carol a DVM. EP who worked for the owners of a clinic, who were, at the time, clients of Bob, the Utah Distributor. We were thrilled
beyond belief when we received her letter, for she gives ECR a pat on the head & acknowledeges we were right about Genetics being a link to some chronic cases of Impaction Colic. In 2006 she married Todd another DVM. EP and they moved to Canada to open a clinic outsideToronto. Carol & Todd assured us, they'll contact the Toronto Distributor & continue using ECR at their Clinic.
At her request and for her security and privacy, we have removed her Last name and the name of Clinic where she worked.
My name is Carol I am a DVM. EP. The owners of the clinic where I work buy your medicine from the distributor and use it to sucessfully treat horses presenting with colic
or impaction colic at the Clinic or on Farm Calls.
We're located in the heart of horse country and as a 24 HR. clinic taking care of over 5,000 horses a year with only 6 Vets, 15 Assistants and 2 mobiles, I hardly have
time to eat so keeping up with news, is hard.
I want to discuss the genetic information you posted on your website and declare this was NEWS TO ME since you assume every Vet already knew it.
I read both extensive articles on Autosomal Recessive genes and Mitochrondrial DNA research which could as you suggested, be a genetic link to impactions as a
viable possiability to describe certain forms of impaction colic. In simple terms while reading both articles, 2 cases of 2 un-related mares that died from impaction
colic 11 years apart came to mind that I discovered 7 years ago while studying for my EP. In both cases each horse was etuhanized and exams were done postmortem.
The notes from each exam revealed 2 simular abnormalities in the Longitudinal Muscle layer of the Coli Wall and a rupture of the wall occured in each mare
at the site of each abnormality.
These 2 cases pointed to the article on Mitochrondrial DNA Mutations like a beacon !
This of course would mean in theory, these two mares became symptomatic because of an inherited Mitochrondrial DNA Mutation but only remain a theory, since
the evidence in both cases is long gone. Still a genetic link to some forms of impactions as well as ruptures could put genetics as a cause for this type of Colic,
eventually in the game.
These mares after reading the articles are no longer an enigma .
It's my belief as it is yours, that soon our one theory might someday become a proven fact !
Thanks for the News and keep it coming, some of the Vets like me really appreciate it.
Carol
You give ECR orally, to your horse so the 4 Part Formula goes, to work as it's ingested, to in unision, Stop the bout gently.
Dr. Smith DVM. EP. who is a friend & Client for the last 4 years, told us Time is of the Essence for a horse with any form of Colic but a horse with a Fecal or Sand Impaction, physically has 8 hours from the first second the Impaction blocked the bowels, to pass it, or they'll die.
When the Clock Stops Ticking &Times run out for your horse at that moment, since you knew you could choose ECR as an Alternative, why wasn't it in your medical bag, to stop the bout?
Conventional Colic Treatments used today by Vets, who aren't Clients, haven't changed in 200 years ! More than one Client, has told their Representative or Distributor, they watched their once strong horse, after the vet used conventional treatments on them, tremble, collaspe & die, in their stall. We put into layman's terms an article from the Internet about the NG tube written by Dr. Terry Gerros who is both a DVM EP & MD. It said what we've been telling owners, for years but maybe they needed, to hear it from someone whose not only a vet but MD , like Terry is, to believe it. So Please listen up, to what he's saying !
" The NG Tube, said Dr. Terry Gerros was designed to be used on a human & or horse to decompress the stomach by removing excess gas & liquids.
"He went on to say, pouring a gallon or more of mineral oil or epsom salts laxative into an already Distended Stomach & or Bowel, could rupture it !
The NG Tube, he said, is employed in this manner by Vets as a Conventional Treatment to float loose or soften impacted fecal matter by pouring laxatives & other such preparations, down it. However; Laxatives fail to effect tightly packed large or small impactions & do more harm than good, to treat a horse who presents with this type of impaction by adding to, in most cases, an already unbearable situation, for the horse !
We asked our friend Carlos, who is a Gastrointestinal Surgeon, client of 10 years and a colleague, what can cause 70% of horses that undergo Gastrointestinal Surgery to die and we quote.
"A horse has a huge amount of intestine that if Twisted, Knotted or Ruptured, will be over handled by a Surgeon, during Surgery.
The intestine of a human or horse, abhors being touched and doing so during that type of surgery, can cause Surgical Death from a fatal form of shock called Surgical Stasis or failure of the bowels, to awaken or move. These horses and human patients usually die during surgery or within
8-10 hours after surgery, since there's no way, to save them."
In closing on this subject, our research team, found in 2007, two articles & according to The International Veterinarian Journal in 2007 41,859 horses died, World Wide during Colic Surgery or 8-10 hours later, after Surgical Stasis occurred & according to Horse & Hound Magazine in 2007 18,305 were Champions from every breed & discipline.
With Colic killing horses every 10 seconds, you'd think owners would line up to choose another Alternative, to waiting for their vet, to save their horse but using Fear to create skeptical minds, has been practiced on Owners for 200 years so Colic continues, to kill their horses by the millions.
Since 1999 ECR has been available as an Alternative & we thank God it continues, to be the World Wide choice of thousands of Clients, who each day use it, to save their horses from dying of Colic.
These Clients dared, to put aside 200 years of Fear & skeptical thinking & chose ECR as an Alternative, for the love of their horses & we can only pray, you will do the same.
