Sand Colic & what ECR as an Alternative Neutraceutical can do for it, is
based on how much sand is in the bowels. A Fecal Sand Impaction contains sand within it, sometimes forming a ball, inside the fecal matter.
As the Fecal Impaction is reduced to a pudding consistency, the ball of
sand breaks apart, settles into it & is removed with it. Small, to medium amounts of sand will also be flushed out with the impaction when the
bowels are fully hydrated but not rock hard or large amounts of sand !
Sand can not be dissovled by water and only alters it's state, when super heated so if rock hard sand is prsent, surgery may be required !
The 1st process in ECR does not effect large hard packed sand impactions containing mostly sand with very little feces. These type of Impactions, as
well as sand colic caused by large amounts of sand in the bowels never respond, to NG drenching a horse by a vet inserting a nasal gastric tube through the nose into the stomach & usually require surgery, to remove. If in the past your horse did have a bout stopped by your vet using NG drenching,
if the same type of bout occurs again, you can use ECR as an Alternative to
NG drenching, to stop the bout.
